10.12.2009

The European Institute for Democracy representative Marek Dominik Peda took part in National Democratic Institute's International Election Assessment Mission to Honduras where the General Elections were held.  The presidential, parliamentary and local elections took place on November 29th.

The main purpose of NDI's election mission was not to take a position on these larger political issues nor should its presence in Honduras be viewed as such. Rather, the mission was to provide an impartial assessment of the conduct of the electoral process. There were 15 experts representing many countries of the region and Europe, who observed the voting and the counting process in more than 80 polling station in the whole country. Soon after the election day and first preliminary results were announced by Honduran Supreme Electoral Tribunal , The Mission presented its Preliminary Report.
